ART
The aim of art and design is to develop pupils' appreciation and expression of their skills in art through practical work in the main areas of drawing, painting, design and crafts:
- In drawing by direct observation of form and structure, a study of line, tone, texture and composition. Various media being used.
- In painting by a knowledge of materials and the development of tone colour and techniques.
- In design by an introduction to observation, analysis and a design process.
- In crafts by a more specialist study of skills in pottery, sculpture, weaving, printing, embroidery, etc.
In Fifth and Sixth Year a one year course of expressive art, design and related critical studies leads to an SQA Higher level award.
In Sixth Year pupils may progress to an Advanced Higher course.
The department also offers an exciting new photography course in S5/S6.
Pupils considering a career in art are helped with the preparation of portfolios for application to University or Art College.
